Title Birch, Carroll and Coyle's Queensland Wintergardens: a study of regional cinema 1910-1970 - DENIS CRYLE
DESCRIPTION  This study which began as a study of the Rockhampton Wintergarden Theatre (Cryle et al 2001) explores the important cultural role of the Wintergarden theatres in regional Queensland from the 1920s.), in order to discern local cultural patterns and identify the main factors which contributed to Birch Carroll and Coyle's ongoing commercial success across its prominent regional sites--Rockhampton, Ipswich, Maryborough, Bundaberg and Townville. The Project, which begins by tracing the formation of the lengthy Birch Carroll partnership and its expansion into regional Queensland prior to its becoming a state-wide consortium, extends to the advent of television and the decline of regional Picture Palaces by the 1970s providing in the process a strong visual and oral record of its regional contribution and impact.
