Title Ernest Fisk - JOCK GIVEN
DESCRIPTION  A biography of Ernest Fisk, managing director of Amalgamated Wireless (Australasia), AWA, 1917-44 and managing director EMI in the UK 1945-51. Fisk was the dominant figure in early Australian wireless communications, steering AWA through the expansion of the wireless business in the 1920s from shipping and military services into radio broadcasting, the establishment of direct wireless telegraph links between Australia and the UK and Canada in 1927-8, international wireless telephony services, and manufacturing. The initial phase of the project was a doctoral thesis, accepted by the School of Historical Studies at the University of Melbourne in April 2007. A radio documentary 'Empire State: Ernest Fisk and the World Wide Wireless', made for ABC Radio National's Hindsight program, was first broadcast on 12 February 2012.
