Title The new television technologies of the 1970s - JULIAN THOMAS
DESCRIPTION  This project traces the divergence of television from broadcasting by reconsidering the impact and uptake of the new television technologies that emerged during the 1970s, including remote controls, teletext systems, games consoles, laser disc players, and programmable VCRs. Instead of seeing these technologies as peripheral devices, the project places them at the centre of a user-led transformation of television, which bears comparison with more recent, policy-driven, attempts to engineer a transition to digital broadcasting.
